Jean Harlow by Edwin Bower Hesser in a rare 1930 portrait utilizing his experimental method of creating “color” photography called “Hessercolor.
”
Hessercolor was created by taking three separate negatives — usually red, blue and yellow — and then sealing the contact proofs on top of each other against a black matte to create the effect. The uncropped shot of Jean (right), shows the edges of the various color layers.
